Sad Movies

that will make you cry your eyes out 😭

As much as making people laugh is tough, making people cry is tougher. Here is a list of some of saddest movies of all-time in my opinion.

The Light Between Oceans (2016)

Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander star as a married couple who try to pass off a newborn baby girl they've found at sea as their own child. The real grief is when the couple -who can’t have children of their own- discover the baby’s birth mother.

Atonement (2007)

This sweeping English drama, based on the book by Ian McEwan, follows the lives of young lovers Cecilia Tallis (Keira Knightley) and Robbie Turner (James McAvoy). When the couple are torn apart by a lie constructed by Cecilia's jealous younger sister, Briony (Saoirse Ronan), all three of them must deal with the consequences. Robbie is the hardest hit, since Briony's deception results in his imprisonment, but hope for Cecilia and her beau increases when their paths cross during World War II.

Still Alice (2014)

Based on Lisa Genova's 2007 bestselling novel, Alice is a professor of linguistics at Columbia University. After a few incidents of disorientation, she’s diagnosed with early onset dementia. The film tracks her descent into the sickness and the toll Alzheimer’s takes on family life. This movie is so heartbreaking, emotional, and for many families, all too relatable.

Allied (2016)

Allied is a romantic thriller film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Steven Knight. It stars Brad Pitt as a Canadian intelligence officer and Marion Cotillard as a French Resistance fighter and collaborator, who fall in love during a mission in Casablanca. The film ends with Marianne reading the letter that she had earlier written to her daughter, anticipating that one day her real identity would be uncovered.

The Time Traveler’s Wife (2009)

A rogue gene causes a librarian (Eric Bana) to uncontrollably travel through time, meaning his wife (Rachel McAdams) spends most of their relationship waiting for him to return and worrying what might happen to him. Love. Fate. Separation. It works as a metaphor for relationships, and as a tragic fantasy tale.
