BRIDGESTONE WORLD SOLAR CHALLENGE
I’ve just done the COOLEST frigging job! Not only did I do an epic road trip through the heart of Australia but I did it with the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge! What’s that you ask? It’s an event held in Australia every two years that sees solar powered vehicles challenged to drive 3,000 km from Darwin to Adelaide. 😱🚗🌞
There are 3 types of vehicles: Challenger Class, Cruiser Class and Adventure Class. They drive each day from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
But I know you don’t just want to see the vehicles, you want to see the landscapes we traversed right? I’ve got you covered! 😍
We started in Darwin and I took full advantage of their iconic sunsets to launch my trip. 🌞☀️🚗❤️
The challenge also passed through Katherine on day 1 and I cheekily backtracked and went to Nitmiluk Gorge for sunset 🙊☀️☀️
And our last stop of Day 1 was Mataranka, I felt really sorry for the teams that zoomed past and weren’t able to stop in the Mataranka and Bitter Springs. 💙💙💙
Day 2 and 3 were spent around Tennant Creek, Karlu Karlu (Devil’s Marbles) and onwards to Alice Springs. At this point we were roughly in the centre of the pack of solar vehicles. 🚗🌞
And a trip to Alice Springs is not complete without a visit to the Kangaroo Sanctuary! 😍 https://kangaroosanctuary.com
I did also sneak in a quick visit to Standley Chasm in the West MacDonnell Ranges just outside of Alice!
At last we were at our last Northern Territory Control Point before crossing the border into South Australia for the home stretch to Adelaide!
Like I said, best trip ever! I already love this part of Australia and I love road trips and I love sustainable energy. What a combination! The nextWorld Solar Challenge will be in 2 years and I am already putting my hand up! Haha Here’s some behind the scenes shots -
