Lake Minnewanka and Vermilion Lakes,Banff

Canada #10 (part 2)

After an awesome day spent hiking in Johnston Canyon Banff NP, we headed back towards town and were greeted with very smokey hazy skies.

We stopped at the lookout again, and boy was the view a little different. The smoke was really starting to set in making it very difficult to see much at all.

We decided to push our luck with the haze and head out to Lake Minnewanka. The haze wasn't as bad out there.

Lake Minnewanka means "water of the Spirits" in Nakoda. It is a glacial lake located in the eastern area of Banff National Park.

Residential ruins from the coal mining ghost town of Lower Bankhead located within Lake Minnewanka park area. This is the old lamp house.

The haze was starting to move back in.

After the lake and ruins we headed back to town, to Bow Falls where the haze was pretty set in.

From Bow Falls we headed to Vermilion Lakes.

It was still about an hour or so from sunset but the smoke was creating some nice colours.

We headed back to the resort and managed to catch the last of the colour before grabbing a late dinner. This is the view from the corner of the resort.
