Our Nation is founded on a fundamental belief in God, and the first and most important reason for the existence of our government is to protect the God-given rights of all citizens... Indeed, over the doorways to the very Chamber of the White House, inscribed in the marble are the words “In God We Trust.” Those words amount to more than a carving in stone, our country will never be able to defend itself. And being the God He is, I believe He will never force us into his love, turning us over to what is right in our own eyes. The Washington Monument is an obelisk on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., built to commemorate George Washington, once commander-in-chief of the Continental Army and the first American president. Located almost due east of the Reflecting Pool and the Lincoln Memorial, the monument, made of marble, granite, and bluestone gneiss, is both the world's tallest stone structure and the world's tallest obelisk, standing 554 feet 7 inches, according to National Park Service. In 1975, Construction of the monument began in 1848 and finished 1885.

On the very walls that surround Abraham Lincoln are his own words that read; "Less fundamental and astounding * both read the same bible and pray to the same God and each involves his aid against the other in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's face but let us judge not that we not be judged * the prayers of both could not be answered - that of neither has been answered fully * The Almighty has his own purposes." "Woe unto the world because of offense for it must need be that offense comes but Woe to the man by whom the offense cometh." For me this rings true today.

Jefferson understood the freedom of the right to worship in liberty. The constitutional separation of church and state was to protect that right. "I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."
