Caption: Resolution and Frame Rate Before you shoot, determine the kind of footage that you intend to capture. Do you want to make a fast paced, high energy edit? Or are you looking for a slow-motion mind bender?
Raw, 100% playback is best paired with high-resolution settings. Whereas, slow-motion will require higher frame rates at the expense of resolution.

Caption: Shoot 4:3 or Superview While surfing, your GoPro is either POV or mounted closely to you. A 4:3 aspect ratio (960p, 1440p, 2.7k 4:3) will ensure that you capture more of your body and more of the wave. It also allows you to crop to the best part of the clip when converting to 16:9 in post production. If you don't want to crop or stretch in post, shoot Superview.

Caption: The Essentials with Kai Lenny ⢠Floaty Backdoor ā¢
(or a Floaty for the HERO Session)
⢠Anti-Fog Inserts ā¢
⢠A clean lens ā¢
ProTip: to keep your GoPro lens clean, spit on or lick your housing's lens, dunk it into the water, then lift it out and shake it. This will create a hydrophilic layer that prevents water from forming droplets.

Caption: ⢠The 3-Way Mount ā¢
This mount can extend the GoPro far enough to capture yourself and Kelly Slater. That is, if you are bold enough to burn him at Snapper (Shane, we do not condone that). Nice shot though...

Caption: ⢠The Surfboard Mount ā¢
It is the simplest and most traditional mount for surfing. Capture yourself without having to hold a GoPro in your hand or mouth while paddling into waves.

Caption: ⢠The Handler ā¢
"The Handler is a floating handgrip that is awesome for surfing because it's lightweight, floats a camera without a Floaty Backdoor, and has a adjustable wrist strap" -Jamie O'Brien

Caption: ⢠The Mouth Mount ā¢
You can repurpose the GoPro Head Strap into a Mouth Mount for surfing. To do so, slip off the elastic bands, leaving just the clip, and use electrical tape to secure some foam or soft neoprene to the plate where your teeth will be.

Caption: ⢠The Tail Mount ā¢
We don't recommend setting yourself on fire and surfing Teahupoo but if you do, we recommend getting creative with our mounts and making a perspective that will make your friend's jaws drop.

Caption: ⢠The UnderBoardSword ā¢
Okay, we made that up, but so did GoPro Athlete Kalani Robb when he decided to stick the Surfboard Mount to the bottom of his board and use an extension arm to distance the GoPro from the nose.
Picture
Caption: ⢠The Chesty ā¢
This mount isn't optimal for surfing, but it works for bodyboarders. Try wearing the Chesty backwards, tightening the shoulder straps and standing the GoPro up on the faceplate for a unique POV.
