Caption: Q3: What kind of media institutions might distribute your media product and why?
Picture
Caption: I think that our media product would be made by a independent film company. We aimed our film at a niche audience, as these sort of films are usually low budget, therefore distributed by a small film company. By offering our film to a small company, this would allow us more power in the decision making involved in the film. Also, a smaller film company would offer a smaller budget which can be an advantage.

Caption: Researching thriller distribution When researching thriller distribution, I found out that Kaleidoscope seemed to be one of the fastest film distribution companies.
Caption: This company fits with the genre of psychology thrillers (which our production is). Therefore I would choose this company to distribute our film as it has a low budget, rising success and are flexible when advertising for producers.

Caption: Why not Warner Bros? We felt that a conglomerate such as Warner Bros would not be ideal for our film as it has a lot of influence.
Caption: It has lots of other companies funding it, therefore we feel that it would take a leading role, so we would not get that much of a say, than if our film was distributed by an independent company. Also this goes against the idea of our film attracting a niche audience, I feel that only a certain amount of people would be interested in our film, therefore a mass distribution would perhaps loose the distributor & the producer money.

Caption: Why not Warp? We have considered Warp distributing our film, however we decided not to go with Warp.
Caption: This is because the production company Kaleidoscope specialises in psychological thrillers, therefore they have experience and could be useful to us. They also tend to notice unknown writers and producers which large companies would perhaps ignore.

Caption: There are a few advantages of using niche marketing. One advantage is that there is less investment involved, this is because they only have to produce a limited supply. There are less risks for investors as the marketing is done to a very small group in society. Also, there is less competition, as they deal with a limited target audience. Usually the film is quite unique, therefore no other distributor will try and compete with a similar film.
Picture
Caption: Finally, this can achieve brand loyalty. The customers may continue to watch films made by that production, based on their opinion on the film they have previously seen, made by the same production company.
Picture
Caption: As well as there being advantages of using niche marketing, there are also disadvantages. One disadvantage is that niche marketing may be out done by larger companies such a conglomerates. This therefore makes it harder for them to distribute their product, meaning there is less profit. They do not get as big as a profit from larger businesses.
Picture
Caption: This means that it is harder for the production to find distributors to make a deal with. This is because the distributor may feel the film will not be successful, or not gross as much money as a film associated with a larger production would.
