Who are they?

The questions Arabs are asking that you should know.

This is not a steller to sell conspiracy theories nor to point the finger at a specific group, nation or government. But I want to explain what is too obvious to us in the middle east that people from around the world might not know and why there is a question mark hovering over our heads when it comes to ISIS.

We all know our own crazy

As an Arab I know what our own crazy can be like.. Or what radical groups usually say or do and usually they try to justify it or make sure everyone knows why they do the stupid things they do and from what sect or school of thinking they came out of. With AlQaeda for instance, we know its a radical form of sunni islam or hezbollah which is shiite. What is ISIS? We dont know. Their school of thought? Nothing. You would think a religious group would be spreading their ideals left and right. They are not. Just causing chaos. Now... The odd stuff you should know.

Muslims & burning.

When ISIS executed this innocent young Jordanian pilot. They did something that is across the board among all kinds of muslims something that is a huge big no no.. Burning. Burning a living soul for execution is considered one of the biggest sins a muslim can commit. Even culturally. When this incident happened, almost every arab and muslim had a question mark hovering over his head

In their propaganda videos, they all pray in an assortment of directions it seems. Another universal truth.. All Muslims pray in one direction we call the Qibla which is towards Mecca.

A radical Islamic group that can't speak Arabic?

Everytime something about ISIS comes up on tv or them putting out some stupid ultimatum.. They sound foreign, speaking (or failing at really) in classical colloquial arabic that is only used in literature which is grammatically incorrect. Yet, they speak perfect english with either a North American or British accent (or at least thats how I hear it)

They are after everyone.

The day of the Kuwait mosque bombing, which was a shiite mosque they bombed.. ISIS also bombed a sunni mosque in Tunisia. I have yet to hear someone as much as sympathize for their cause.. Nobody (really not a soul) in the Arab world even tried to speak out for them. They are so bad at pretending to be a muslim radical group that we have arabic memes and jokes about it.

Who are they?

Nobody knows. We arabs are known to keep track of lineage and usually will hear "so and so is from that family from that country in that neighborhood" I have an official record that traces my name back 600 years for instance. You would think someone will identify one of them at least. Nobody knows them, its like they came out of thin air even their recruits are always abroad.. France, England, America etc. They only give access to western media (like Vice) to the inside workings of their group.

So who is responsible?

I would be a liar if I said I know. Nor will I come up with conspiracy theories. But I know this from speculation: ISIS is not muslim, they are not from the middle east and only if you are from here will you really see how obvious this is. Too many people are dying or being misplaced from all over the world from this weird odd group that came out of the blue. I think with our side of the puzzle pieces and yours, we could at least see a clearer picture and put a stop to this. Someone's caviar and rolex watch out there has humanity's blood splattered all over it.

Thank you

Greatly appreciate this insight from your perspective! I am pleasantly surprised to see Steller evolving to have users approach this medium to explore more than the expected amazing beautiful content already here. I might suggest you take a look at Ideapod.com as well to help the important omnilogue you are conjuring up.

Interesting thoughts indeed...as I listen to a program on the radio about Jesus and what is happening in France and the rest of Europe...

  • Chanez008

Really interesting, I think that indeed in France they are always speaking about DAESH but they just said it's "radical" Islam..

  • 77slade

Interesting. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

  • shawnscheiwe

This is very interesting. I'm a journalism student from Australia and am currently researching a story on Isis and how/where they have come from. I'd love to hear what you have to say if you'd like to speak some time.

  • jsuleiman72

Yes. We are all confused and horrified and saddened. It is so hard to explain who they are when we honestly do not know. What I do know, though, is that they are a scourge on the planet.

Reading your thoughts here again makes it so clear that the American news is also major propaganda! I've been to the Middle East several times & stayed with family there & friends & truly fell in love with the people & the land. I'm sorry that your people have been blamed for this terrible terrorist group! Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. 💛

Thank you for taking the time to create and share this. It truly saddens me to see people from my country falling for the propaganda and being so fearful. Best regards from a friend from the U.S.

Thank you for the explanation. Just another piece to figuring out this puzzle

  • hbraica

I wonder and why do you always hide behind an Arab country? fend not be that.

  • ethosphane

Thanks for this wonderful piece of journalism. This is the direction Steller should be going. While the beautiful artful imagery we find on here is always inspiring, this has real implications for a global audience and can affect real change. Thank you!

  • clabree

Thank you so much for doing this. It's hard to make sense of what's going on - especially when, here in the United States, we don't get the truth from our government or the media.

  • skullandsparrow

Thank you for sharing, things I never heard about before.

  • iskrafineart

I agree, great to see some new directions here. For those interested in in depth journalism this piece outlines the structure and history of the organization: http://m.spiegel.de/international/world/a-1029274.html and this piece from today explains a bit about the media operation. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/inside-the-islamic-states-propaganda-machine/2015/11/20/051e997a-8ce6-11e5-acff-673ae92ddd2b_story.html

@shawnscheiwe I would be happy to but I do have to state that Im not an isis specialist or anything the post is purely from my own speculation.

  • Lambie

very interesting...why isn't this in the news, on interviews with Muslims. Thank you.

  • abadkwt

@Lambie it is but only on arabic television. For some reason its never brought up on English speaking networks. It's all very confusing.

  • wulan_dewi_sunu

@azizn peace for the world, bro 🙏

  • Maxfloyd

If you allow me ! The Islam and the real Muslims never kill a human ! DAECH ARE TERRORISTS ! Never and never the Muslim can do what dash did ! Here in Algeria we lives in peace !

  • lanceholter

The West needs more of this explanation, thank you. Barculoufic

  • queenmorphine

@azizn Thank you for sharing your perspective. A great percentage of Americans are absolutely clueless when it comes to this topic and refuse to even consider information that contradicts their preconceived notions. Of course, it doesn't help that we have idiots like Presidential candidate Donald Trump spewing hate & misinformation on a very elevated and public platform. The US media failed us miserably—if they had cut him off in the beginning, he would've had no choice but to crawl back under his rock.
