| 5-Seen-Wanderung, Pizol |

The arduous journey of 2 unprepared city bumpkins into the wild Glarus Alps. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜± Dedicated to my mother who has always dreamed of exploring this world and because she could not, has given me the freedom and opportunity to do so.

It was a promising start - this pristine calmness in LaufbΓΆden.

As this was sold to us as a 'fun hike', we translated it to be a relaxing and calm walk. So we took time to enjoy the views and envy this cow's life. πŸ˜‡

We even tried make friends with the cows, who stared at us for a while and then walked towards us with a not so friendly swagger. We knew then that it was time to πŸ‘£!

Soon after we started walking we faced our first uphill climb. Of course, we were naive enough to think that it would also be our last.

Across the first peak we came upon lake 1 (Wangsersee). So far so good, it was really fun. πŸ’ͺ🏽

The smugness of reaching that first lake was rapidly replaced by the horror of what waited for us round the corner. Could those little dots near the peak actually be people?!?

As cruel fate would have it they were! So after much huffing and puffing, and allowing everyone, I mean everyone, to overtake us we scrambled our way up to the top.

Just as we were ready to doubt our sanity for undertaking this self-inflicted torture, we stumbled upon lake 2 (Wildseeluggen). And what a beauty it was!

Having fallen in love with this view, we let our common sense take flight. Our only option, we decided, was to trek on with all our might!

Of course, we were promptly met by this path, but in that moment of insanity we decided we just had to get past! πŸ‘£

Thankfully we managed to reach lake 3 (Schottensee) with just some bruises to our ego and dignity. But physically intact to take in the views of our vicinity.

Water, water everywhere. Not a drop to drink! We had taken no food and a small bottle of water...which by now had been exhausted to the brink. πŸ˜“

But, you know what they say, there is no rest for the wicked. So thirsty and grumpy, we set out to conquer the new heights that lay ahead.

A few tears, a mild panic attack, extreme dehydration and exhaustion brought us to lake 4 (Schwarzsee).

Just as we debated how we should ration our last sip of water, we came across this fresh water spring. Finally some glee! πŸ˜‡

After drinking about a gallon of water each, we felt extremely optimistic about conquering this peak (also because it would lead us to the last creek!).

Just as we climbed up and panted to catch our breaths, we were comforted with the knowledge that this trail had broken stronger people than us.

So we patted ourselves on our backs and hopped and skipped to lake 5 (Baschalvasee). Knowing that this was the last lake and the beginning of the end brought us a wave of optimism, a feeling so rare for cynics like us!

And that sheer wave of euphoria seemed to carry us through to Gaffia as we got on to the cable car. I can confidently say what we felt was genuine happiness, hurrah!

I still do not know why we decided to walk the entire trail and did not turn back after the first 2 lakes (like so many sensible people did). But as we have now completed the hike and live to tell our tale, I am glad we did it, because the views were stunning and the air refreshing. Thank you to my fellow crazy wanderer @kr1th1ka for the adventure! #stellerstories #stellerwander #weekendwander #switzerland
