NANG SAL

A school on top of the World

Qingahi, China

Few years ago I had the incredible opportunity to do a reportage work in Tibet with Himalayan Seeds organization. I spent two weeks in a remote elementary school located at 4,000 meters above the sea level in the Chinese province of Qinghai, in an area where 96% of the population is Tibetan.

In the school there over 200 students, there are also 8 teachers. They live here almost 9 months per year. I have the feeling that I am the first bearded Caucasian man they see in life.

The school is located in a remote area, far away from the Tibetan village of Yushu. It took us almost six hours of off-road drive to reach the school. Near the school there is only another one building, the Buddhist monastery. I had the chance to take a portrait of Chun Jur Lama in his room. He was the master of the monastery.

I will never forget the faces, the looks and the smiles of those amazing people.
