There's nothing like being up in the air. Whether it's to travel or take in the views of this breathtaking planet, it is a humbling and unforgettable experience for anyone. So, when I was invited to join Gold Coast Tourism and Hot Air Gold Coast in a balloon floating over the Hinterland near where I grew up, the answer was obvious. (Yes.) Here's why...

It started with a very early (3:30am), foggy and chilly Autumn morning. But I'd just finished a coffee so I was perfectly fine (thanks for waiting @laurenepbath! Haha.)

We arrived at the launch site just after sunrise. It was a stunning orange and pink... Which we saw through thick fog, from the bus, cameras packed away. Not exactly the best shooting conditions. After watching the inflation, it wasn't long until we hopped in and it was up, up and away!

That's a loooong way down! Haha

Maybe they should rename it the Green Coast ;)

Imagine camping by that gully!

River crossing

After the high of ballooning, we went to the O'Reilly's Treetop Challenge for some high ropes. We got high a lot that day. (Not in that way.)

DSLR + zip lines = not easy

Thanks for flipping through! And a big thanks to @visitgoldcoast, @hotairgoldcoast, @treetop_challenge and Songbirds Rainforest Retreat for the truly awesome day. You can check these guys out on Instagram at said handles...

...and me over at @karlblack.
