Simple Cinnamon Buns
A classic from Mom's kitchen
Growing up I always remember my Mom cooking and baking, letting us experiment in the kitchen. Oh my goodness the messes we would make! Mostly I remember how easy and quick it was. If we had company just "pop in" my Mom would whip up these Cinnamon Buns, Coffee Cake or some Tea Biscuits. There is so much joy and comfort in sharing food, as there are surely great stories to follow. Old fashioned comfort food holds the best memories for me. The smell of cinnamon reminds me of my Mom❤️
DOUGH 2 Cups All purpose flour 2 Tbsp Granulated sugar 4 Tsp Baking powder 1 Tsp Salt 1/4 Cup Butter 1 Cup Milk FILLING 1/2 Cup Butter 1 Cup Brown sugar 3 Tsp Cinnamon 1/2 Nuts or raisins Bake at 400F for 20-25 mins GLAZE: 1/2 Cup Icing sugar, 1 Tsp Vanilla, 3 Tbsp Milk
In a small bowl, cream together: butter, brown sugar and cinnamon.
In large bowl put flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly.
Form a well in flour mixture and add milk.
Stir in milk to form a soft dough. Knead 8-10 times.
Turn out onto lightly floured surface.
Roll into rectangle about 1/3 in thick, 12in x 6in. Spread filling evening over dough.
Add nuts or raisins. I used pecans, but walnuts are good too.
Roll up like a jelly roll.
Score the roll into 12 equal pieces. I start in the middle, then cut through.
Place cut rolls into muffin tin.
Bake at 400F for 20-25 mins, until golden brown.
Cool on rack for about 10-15 mins.
It is always a good idea to taste test one right away:)
