Life in Repeat

The Process

The process of textile design for me usually starts with watercolor, India ink or a good old-fashioned pen.

I rely on my library of sketchbooks

that have followed me around the world. They capture architecture, flower studies and favorite places.

Painting is just another way of keeping a diary

Pablo Picasso

Treasures collected from nature inspire

Sometimes I carve a block

To see how the design will print in repeat.

When there is a design in my head it spills out onto the paper. I have to get it out before it disappears.

Next comes mixing colors.

I use oils to create the perfect hue.

Colors are put to fabric

And sent off to the mill to match

The world is but a canvas to our imagination

Henry David Thoreau
