Now that the weather is starting to get warmer and sunnier and generally more pleasant, I'm craving bright and fizzy drinks. Basil Italian soda is one of my favorites, and it's so easy to make. Here's how it's done...
01 / add syrup to an empty glass.
02 / fill the glass with ice cubes.
03 / top with sparkling water.
for the syrup: 1/2 cup organic sugar 1/2 cup boiling water 1/2 cup packed basil leaves, washed and torn for the drink: 3 tablespoons basil syrup 3/4 - 1 cup sparkling water Ice cubes Whisk the sugar and water together to dissolve the sugar. Add the basil leaves to the warm syrup and steep for 15 minutes. Strain the mixture into a glass jar to remove the basil. Chill thoroughly. Pour the basil syrup into the bottom of the glass. Add plenty of ice, then top with sparkling water. Stir with a straw before drinking.
