I turn 30 this year, and the quotes I found inspirational or fitting when I was in my early twenties is quite different than what inspires me now. I was pretty overcome with the drama in my life; romantic drama, personal drama, family drama. I also dealt with crippling lack of self worth. I had such a need to create, to conceptualize, and no self confidence to pursue it. Afraid of failing, afraid of judgement, and mostly thinking I had potential and being terrified to discover I really didn't, in actuality.
I had enough courage this year to really put aside my fears and pursue something creative and precious to me - my photography. I still have a long way to go, but I'll never know unless I try to put myself out there. I feel more fulfilled than I ever have.
In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you. - unknown
When I was younger, I couldn't accept things I really wanted weren't meant for me. Not in a tantrum way, I just had time to burn. Things would work out, in enough time, things would go my way. I used to think that thinking was noble, but it's naive. Hope is precious, but some things, some wants, just are not meant for you. And holding on to it, not moving on...just delays your own happiness, and complicates other people's as well. Not every want is meant for you, and that's okay. Move on. ...and go find what is.
Don't live the same year 75 times and call it a life
I'm a bit of an introvert, and I like my creature comforts. But whenever I read this quote it reminds me that if I spend every day in my comfort zone I won't be living a life at all. Whether it be spending every weekend binge watching Netflix instead of seeking adventures, or sticking within my strengths in photography instead pushing my boundaries, this quotes reminds me not to be stagnant.
You should always be learning. If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong place.
I remind myself of this whenever I feel inadequate. We are always looking for validation, especially for our talents and creativity, so when we are surrounded by others who make us feel like we are falling short, it means you're surrounded by good company, not that you are failing. Surround yourself with people who inspire and teach, not those who make you feel like it's your crown to lose.
I'm not interested in competing with anyone. I hope we all make it.
We're all in this rat race together. Remember your insecurities; use them for empathy and don't let them harden you. love, love, love.
