Paperweight Pebbles

You will need maps...

scissors, glue...and a hot drink ( to keep you company )

choose the maps... ( paper, rather than cloth maps are best and squarer, rather than rounder pebbles )

cover the pebble and the map with pva glue...

...and start to wrap

be prepared to get very messy, sticky hands... You have to smooth the map over the pebble when it's covered in glue

This one was quite large so will be a door stop rather than a paperweight...

I used to live on this pebble...

The pebble paperweight...

I love collecting pebbles from the beach or a walk, but I sometimes sort of feel for the odd, and not very attractive ones which get left, these are the ones I collect for paperweights and doorstops!

@susanroehm rock 'hound'...I love that! Yes, even if you have a load of map rocks around, they're always useful! πŸ˜‰

I love this! We collected beach rocks, wrote on them and used then as the escort cards at our wedding.

  • susanroehm

@5ftinf You should see the looks I get from airline personnel and movers! Inevitably I hear, "She's moving rocks!" πŸ˜„πŸ‘

    Very cool idea!!

  • b_a_r_b_a_r_a

    I like this idea!

  • 5ftinf

@_Kristen do! It is a bit tricky to get it all smooth, so if you water the glue down a tad it softens the paper more...just put glue on top and keep smoothing πŸ˜‰

Oh my love this but I'm so torn - it would be so hard to part with an old map. Yet those would be the best for the project. The struggleπŸ˜‚

  • 5ftinf

This is possibly the most clever little project I've seen! I'm now on the hunt for ugly, square pebbles (more like rocks, perhaps?). Thanks for the tutorial!

@5ftinf again thank you so much for sharing this idea and ever so beautifully on this app... I have found some old maps containing places I visited in my teens, on a very special road trip with (very special) family members. I had no idea what to do with them, until now. I can share a piece of the memories in this way. Thank you. I cannot wait to share with my motherπŸ’šπŸ’œπŸ’™πŸ’›β€οΈπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ’ž

Couldn't you photocopy or scan the old maps so the originals aren't destroyed? They look very cool, but it feels terrible to ruin antique maps.
