Banff National Park, Canada
Over the last several years a new tradition has been born in which I greet the New Year on an adventure with great friends and family. To welcome 2015, we took off to the Great White North to get outside and explore Banff when most stay in, cozied up by the fire. We definitely enjoyed winter's quiet light and virtually had Banff to ourselves. I hope you enjoy a look into our adventure and some of the beautiful scenery that we encountered. ~Matthew
"What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness." ~ Steinbeck
We had seen some amazing spots, but now I wanted to have some fun doing a photo shoot on frozen Bow Lake. ... Now just to get everyone motivated to get out of the car since it was a lovely -22°F outside. In these times, never forget that:
And if that wasn't enough, how about trail running on a frozen creek? Come on... It's warmed to a balmy -8°F now and the sun is shining!
Capping off the adventure with dog sledding- what an experience!
How glorious a greeting the sun gives the mountains! ~ John Muir
He certainly was right, but I also think the sun says farewell for the night in a glorious way! And the Northern Lights don't do a bad job either.
I always learn something new every time I'm in the great outdoors. I've recognized that quiet moments often call to me as a photographer. I truly love seeing people with their inner peace shining. One of my many goals for this year is to focus on the non-planned and spontaneous times that are all around. What are your goals? Happy New Year!
