For five days in December the country of Bahrain hosted over 70 of the top triathletes in the world for the inaugural Challenge Bahrain Triathlon. This is a glimpse into our experience. (This was on the bike course- flat/windy!)
The athletes stayed at the Sofitel resort. This was the view from our room.
When we wondered what was sharp on the floor of the sea we realized it was thousands of these tiny shells.
Transportation from the airport was provided by a fleet out Audis.
Before the race Bec and I along with Tim O'Donnell, Meredith Kessler, And Tim Don toured the HMS Shoreham mine sweeper. The U.S. And UK sailors keep fit on their bikes with a watt bike and competed in the race.
A sampling from Athlete Food of some of our favorite meals. Fresh fruit, elaborate desserts and lots of flavorful rice dishes.
The last 3 miles of the bike course were on Bahrain's Formula 1 circuit. Rolling, twisty and fast. Skid marks from cars not bikes!
Cervelo checked and ready to go for the last race of the season. I was one of three American girls racing.
A brass band played the national anthem of Bahrain prior to the start of the race.
Ironman World Champion Mirinda Carfrae finishing. That's me back there trying to catch up!
Post race fireworks and all- night concert featuring Dire Straits experience and AKON!
Enjoying lunch in the sun after the race.
Thank you Challenge Family and Bahrain for this unbelievable experience. We can't wait to go back!
