Chasing Stars Across Alberta

And finding the

Aurora, too

Every October, Tourism Jasper hosts it's Dark Sky Festival. The terms Dark Skies refers to limited light pollution; the orange haze that hangs above cities is pleasantly absent in Jasper National Park. After the festival, Jack Fusco and I spent four days chasing stars and northern lights across both Jasper and Banff National Parks. We were happy with the results.

We traveled up and down the Icefield Parkway, searching for clear patches through the first winter storms.

After so many drives back and forth between locations and four days with barely a wink of sleep, we found our ultimate fortunes: The Aurora Borealis danced above Lake Minnewanka, just outside the town of Banff.

The end
