I first came to know my neighbour's work when I would hear him play cello. One afternoon Nigel invited us to the historic cottage that houses a restoration workshop, luthier and where Nigel makes bows. It felt as though we stepped back in time.
Nigel uses horsehair from a farm that he's worked with for many years to craft his instrument bows.
The luthier applies the stain to each instrument by hand. It is a process that takes many months to complete applying each layer by hand and allowing each layer to dry before applying more.
