in the Canadian Rockies
When friends and family come to visit I love to spend at least one afternoon with them out on a lake in a canoe. It offers a different perspective of the mountains and it's such a calming way to spend time outdoors with the people I love. There are so many places to canoe here. I'll share the places that make it easy with a dock and a fleet of rental canoes for experienced canoeists and those who have never stepped foot in a canoe.
Emerald Lake is aptly named for it's stunning colour and offers beautiful mountain views. Located near the border of Alberta & British Columbia a few minutes away from the mountain town Field.
Moraine Lake known for it's colourful canoes and the famous view of the Valley of the Ten Peaks that once appeared on the Canadian twenty dollar bill.
In Banff the Banff Canoe Club rents both canoes and kayaks. You can choose to leave right from their dock up the Bow river or out to Vermillion Lakes. You also have the option to load one of their canoes on your car and head out to a destination of your choice.
