Every week, I host a new a photo challenge on STELLER and Instagram to foster creativity within the #candyminimal community, judged by renowned minimalist photographers.
This week's challenge is #candysymmetry, judged by iconic artist Nicanor Garcia (IG: @nicanorgarcia, 615K followers).
R U L E S
1. Make a colorful symmetry-themed story. 2. Use tags #candysymmetry and #candyminimal. 3. Challenge ends Sunday at 11:59PM CST. Winners will be announced Monday. Winners will be featured on STELLER and Instagram.com/candyminimal. For inspiration, check out Nicanor's examples on the following pages.
PRO TIP: Where you stand when you take your shot is critical. Look at both sides of your subject on your screen or through the viewfinder before snapping the pic. Make sure your alignment makes each side look perfectly even and symmetric.
PRO TIP: Placing your phone on the floor, camera-side up, and snapping a pic will guarantee a perfectly flush capture with whatever is above you. Just make sure the phone's placement is correct and that you stay out of the shot!
PRO TIP: You can fake symmetry by using an app like Mirrorgram, which will mirror one side of your photo for you. This creates an interesting, surreal effect.
PRO TIP: Cropping your photograph so the lines of your subject meet the corners of the frame enhances the symmetry of your composition.
PRO TIP: Architecture is a great subject for symmetrical compositions, since buildings are usually built with symmetry in mind.
