Painting a Bison with

FIRE & WAX

Encaustic Painting

Now my stock & trade as an artist, I paint 30-40 thin layers of beeswax & oil over an image.

A collector approached me about doing a fourth piece of photo-encaustic wildlife for their lovely home in Montana's prestigious Yellowstone Club.

A custom bison image was created through collaboration with collectors and software. It then gets covered in clear beeswax & natural resin.

The wax gets melted and lovingly applied, then blowtorched for adhesion.

The Studio

Takes on a cozy, messy vibe with jazz and a warming fire.

The layers build up.
