carve a badass spoon in six steps.
•piece of wood (hardwoods like walnut and cherry preferred) •hook knife •carving knife •pencil •saw for rough cut •sandpaper •oil
Draw desired shape of spoon on your board.
With hook knife, carve out the bowl of your spoon. Going perpendicular to the grain of the wood makes for bigger cuts.
With saw, make a rough cut of your spoon out of the board. I use a scroll saw.
With carving knife, whittle your spoon down to it's desired shape. Take note of the way the knife take pieces of the wood depending on the way you cut with the grain. It's easy to take too much!
Sand until your hands feel like they are going to fall off.
Oil and let dry. I use butcher block oil and it works well.
Way to go! You made a spoon. I'm so proud of you.
