Waterloo
The battlefield
,
,
Site of the Battle of Waterloo, where the
resurgent Napoleon was defeated for the
final time in 1815.
Waterloo lies a short distance south of
Brussels, Belgium.  The battle was won by
an alliance of Brittish, Dutch and German
armies.
,
,
After the battle, a hill was made with on top, a lion,
symbol of Flanders, facing France in a cruel way.
Wellington Said that the hill spoil his battlefield.
Therefore the brand new €50M museum is
excavated underneath the fields, unvisible to see
from above.
,
,
Wellington did not like the name „Mont Saint
Pierre“: too dificult.  Therefore the site was
called Waterloo, as like the name of a town
10km further up.

Now there are 40 cities in the world named
Waterloo
,
,
The day after the battle, about 10.000 soldiers
and thousands of horses were found dead. At
that time the biggest slaugther after Leipzig
and Moscow.
,
A bloke has been busy for 30 years to make tin soldiers
and copy the battlefield.  His dream was to have it
exposed one day in a museum.   It ended up underneath
the battlefield itself., in th new museum.

„Nothing except a battle
lost can be half as
melancholy as a battle
won“
Wellington

Highlight of the new museum is an epic 4D
cinema featuring the battle as if you are
inside yourselves.  Breathtaking.
