Tarpon Springs, famous as “the sea
sponge capital of the world,” was
established by Greek sponge divers in
the early 1900s. Today, the historic
waterfront town about 30 miles
northwest of Tampa, is known for its
authentic Greek heritage. The main
road in town, Dodecanese, is lined
with shops selling traditional Greek
goods and trinkets, and
authentic Greek
restaurants
and bakeries.
