Stockholm is the capital and the largest city of Sweden. It is made up of several islands where Lake Mälar meets the Baltic Sea. Different districts compose it and offer various monuments to visit.
The church of St. Nicolas hosts the royal ceremonies. It was built in 1279 and became a Lutheran Protestant church in 1527. Its interior is of Swedish Brick Gothic style, but was modified in 1740 to take on a Baroque style. It houses the famous wooden sculpture of Saint George and the Dragon (1489).
The Stockholm City Hall was built between 1911 and 1923. It is of national romanticism style and its architecture bears witness to the influence of Nordic Gothic and the schools of northern Italy. It is the workplace for the city’s politicians and civil servants.
