VISITING
MONTSERRAT
,
THE
LOCATION
The abbey of Montserrat is located in a
mountain range of the same name, just
an hour out of Barcelona, Spain.
Because of it’s close proximity, visiting
Montserrat is one of the most popular
day trips for tourists visiting the city.
,
THE ABBEY OF
MONTSERRAT
The biggest allure for tourists, as well as local Catalans
and Catholics, is to be able to view the Virgin of
Montserrat, one of the Black Madonnas in Europe
during the 18th century. The Virgin is the patron saint of
Catalonia, oftentimes shared with Sant Jordi.
,
Along the Ave Maria path, visitors are
allowed to buy and light a candle in the
passages alongside the abbey,
representative of a prayer for the Virgin.
REFLECTION
,
It’s easy to get distracted by the
spectacular views of high mountain tops
in the background
,
Around the abbey are a variety of trails
that weave around mountain ridges and
peaks, offering spectacular views of the
valley below.
,
,
Residences, used for monks
practicing at the abbey, are dotted
alongside the mountain trails and
exude vibrant colors of red and
auburn.
,
Whether you’re seeking peace in the
abbey or hoping to stretch your legs and
catch fresh air on mountain trails,
Montserrat has something for everyone
