A Journey to Remember
,
THE
LOCATION
We started our hike from the Vogelsang
IP parking lot. As we started on our hike,
Matt started doing research on the area.
It was neat to discover we were hiking in
an area full of history!
,
Ordensburg Vogelsang is a former Nazi
estate placed at the former military
training area in Eifel National Park in
North Rhine-Westphalia. The
landmarked and completely preserved
estate was used by the National
Socialists between 1936 and 1939 as an
educational centre for future leaders.
Since 1 January 2006 the area has been
open to visitors. It is one of the largest
architectural relics of National Socialism.

Stumbling upon this was such a surprise.
I watched a YouTube documentary
about this town just days before this
hike! I had no clue this would be on the
trail.
,
Wollseifen was a town on the Dreiborn
plateau, not far from the former NS
Ordensburg Vogelsang, in what is now
the Eifel National Park .

After the end of the Second World War,
the village was cleared by the British
armed forces in order to create the
Vogelsang military training area on the
surrounding area. This was handed over
to the Belgian military in 1950. Since
January 1st 2006, after the abandonmen
t of the military training area, the place,
now a desert, has been open to the
public again.
,
Further on our hike, we got deep into
the forest. We came across a beautiful
lake, where we sat and watched a river
cruise oat.
,
,
Later, crossing a dam where they have
information on the dam, as well as a few
cafes and WC.

At this time, we had some snacks to
refuel us, admiring this crystal blue
water.
