Slavonija
Croatia
,
Slavonija is a true hidden gem, mostly cause it’s
popularity is pretty weak, considering that Croatia has a
beautiful coast to offer. As this part of the country holds
so much history, specially during Croatian War of
Indepence, I feel like it has so much to offer and there
are so many lessons here to be taught and to be seen.
,
I started my trip in Vinkovci. Town was inhabited for more
then 8.000 years, and it’s known as the oldest European
town. With it’s beautiful surroundings, I couldn’t stop
admiring beautiful river Bosut which is perfect for snapping
some wildlife photos, as well as charming river boats and old
fishermans.

I was invited to visit local apiary, a bee farm where bee
farmers produce honey keep hives. Fascinated by new
knowledge and a bit nervous about thousands bees flying
around me, I’ve found myself slowly falling in love with
this hard working job.
,
,
This particulary apiary, has temporary hives which are
being transfered to different locations every 2 weeks once
the plants in the area are in bloom. This was the last day of
acacia farm, and they started the moving process at 3 am
while the bees are still at sleep.

Local Bee Farmer Danijel Kunodi
,
Since the spring was colder than usual, bees were left
hungry because the plants didn’t bloom. When this
happens, they start to eat their own honey so that they can
survive.
,
,
,
,
It was quite nerve wrecking to stand amongst
thousand and thousands of bees, but most
loveliest bee farmer Mr. Danijel Kunodi, made
me feel very safe and had a lot of patience and
unamtachable knowledge just about anything
you can ask.
,
,
Bosut river was full of little surprise, so here we saw a
snake catching a fish and bringing it to the shore.
,
,
,
This was a peferct time of the year to take some photos of
poppies. As you drive along the little vilagges there are
huge fields of poppies everywhere you look.
,
Ilok
,
If you find yourself close to Ilok, consider stoping at
“Ilocki Podrumi”. Oldest Croatian Cellars will leave you
speechless, after you see history and taste their
delicious wine. The old Wine Cellar is built in 1450, and
it’s first originally purpose built wine cellar in this part
of the Europe.
,
,
The Ilok Cellars Traminer premium wine was served at
the celebration of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

Exploring Ilok, and finding some beautiful spots to
admire the nature.

Another wine tasting, but this time in Erdut. We visited famous
winery Brzica, and were welcomed by charming views. As we
sat down and chatted with the owner, we had the pleasure to
taste everything he produces on his land. I specially love
hospitality of locals here. In matter of minute, we all became
best friends and were treated as such.

Erdut
,
This is Danube River, Europe’s second largest river. It
flows through 10 countries, and here it divides Croatian
boarder with Serbian.

Little vilages on our drives to the cities.

Kopački Rit
,
Kopački rit is one of the most preserved wetlands in Europe
having an extraordinary biodiversity. Another value of
Kopački rit is the continuous change of the landscape,
according to the season and the inflow or outflow of the
water. The prevalence of animal species in the area of
Kopački rit depends on the water dynamics.
,
According to many research activities, about 70% of the
bird species dwelling in a certain area can be observed
during one visit. In other words, you can see between 35
and 63 species on a daily basis. The maximum number of
species recorded during one whole-day visit was 93.

There is so much history and tragic times that this
place had went through, but the beauty and hospitality
of Slavonian people always stayed the same. In fact, it
probably got better if that’s even possible. This land
holds special people and it shows.
Thank you for watching and reading.
